UPDATE The NZMac.com widget featured the talent of two very creative people (and I just tagged along for the ride) and we've welcomed others taking up using the widget and/or making use of the code that we'd included and released under the "Creative Commons License".

One such widget to come from the NZMac.com gene pool has just been listed on the Apple.com website as their "Featured Widget" and Jeff from the Podcast Shuffle Show (www.podcastshuffle.com) got in touch to say thanks.

Speck Products have generously offered a number of iPod accessories for users of the NZMac.com site to review. These products are designed to protect a number of the different iPods that Apple have available, as well as one product that I'm really trying to avoid describing as "cute". But there..I said it, OK?!

This news item is a "call for expressions of interest" from people that would be willing to review a case and contribute to a review of the Speck Products iPod accessories. And you get to keep the case as a thank you!

Thanks to the kind folk at Prosoft Engineering, I have two copies of their OS X drive utility software "Drive Genius" to give away to NZMac.com users...and it's very easy to win!

All you have to do is email me with the answers to four very simple questions and you're in with a chance to get your hands on this great software.

UPDATE You know you are part of an incredibly supportive and talented community when the likes of Cian Walsh and Craig Stanton answer your plea for help to develop the NZMac.com widget further.

Without them, the incredibly professional and superb widget (I'm very proud of it, but it's all thanks to these guys) would never have been possible. So here it is...NZMac.com Widget, version 0.7....wow! Download it now!

A recent posting in the discussion forum requested the ability for users of the site to be able to post comments directly under stories. You can read the forum as to why I decided against that approach, particularly when the forum is such a popular location for communication amongst users of this site.

However I'm pleased to announce that as of today, you can add related web links to the bottom of news stories, reviews and some other sections, which means you are now able to link a story to a relevant discussion in the forum.

UPDATE Help! I'm really pleased to announce...and really amazed that I got it to actually work...a dashboard widget for use with this site, featuring the ability to view news, forum and event calendar feeds. But at version 0.2, I've done about as much as I can and now would welcome any support from the NZ Mac community.

I'm not a coder at all. I'm a hacker...and not in the cool "can find his way into any system" kind of way, but just someone that can read other people's code, change it a bit and get it working. And in many respects, that's what this widget represents.

There's this guy that's constantly online on this site and posting messages in the discussion forum. I mean seriously, does this guy ever sleep or have a social life? Just check any of the forum postings and you'll always finding him there, sometimes just chatting, sometimes offering good advice...but come on...this guy really needs to get out more often! But enough about me.

Then there's these other people. The far more normal and slightly less obsessive Mac users (and my apologies, if you do want to be called more obsessive than me it can be arranged) who come online, post great supportive comments and have a wealth of experience and opinion to share with us. There's lots of them and the top three have just won some goodies!

An odd name, but this competition is really simple! It's up to you to do whatever you want to do to contribute to the site and you'll have a chance to win some goodies from my trip to the States and from the Apple Company Store in return.

You might have a really good bookmark for us all, you might be a company wanting to list for free in the Business Directory. I might have seriously missed out on some key dates for inclusion in the online Mac Event Calendar...or might I be missing some local User Group information.....whatever!

UPDATE As you are aware, the aim of the NZMac.com site is to encourage participation by the users of the site.... namely, the New Zealand Macintosh community. Recently I've given companies the opportunity to support these endeavours and I'm very pleased to announce the first of what I hope will be many more opportunities for you in the future.

Thanks to the folks at Prosoft Engineering, this news item is an invite to you, to express an interest if you'd like to review their product "Drive Genius" for the site.

I'm pleased to announce the launch of "Shop NZMac.com" today, allowing you to purchase merchandise featuring the NZMac.com logo and in doing so, take an active part in both supporting and promoting the NZMac.com website.

The NZmac.com shop, operates through the Cafepress website and allows you to choose a huge range of products including clothing, mousepads, calendars, coffee mugs and more!
