Well, it's about time that we had a contest on this site and about time I started giving away some of the goodies that I bought at the Apple Company Store on my visit there earlier this month.
As per usual, most of the contest on this site are designed to try improve the site for the benefit of all users and get everyone contributing, so this contest is no exception...and it's really easy. It's not a major event, just an easy contest to have a bit of fun and get this site growing.
First of all, in big bold letters, I want to say the following.... If there isn't a category in the bookmark section for where you want your bookmark to go, just email me (

) and I'll add in new categories for you to place your bookmark in. OK, by that comment you might have figured out what this contest is about. I want to have as many useful websites listed in the "Useful websites (bookmarks)" section as possible. There are three small, but neat prizes up for grabs. The first prize will be given to the person that I think submits the best website that I've not come across before.....the bookmark that I look at and think "Great website". That person will get to choose which of the prizes up for grabs that they would like.
Second and third prize is a simple "name out of a hat" draw. Anyone who enters a website into the bookmark section and follows the procedure outlined below, will go into the draw for whatever prizes are left over after the first prize person has had their pick.
So here are the rules... - Everyone in NZ can enter....'cept me. Overseas users of the site are welcome to contribute entries, but prizes will only be shipped to a NZ address.
- You can enter as many websites as you like and each will be considered a separate entry (so that chap in the Hall family who submits entries under every family member's name every time there's a contest...you know who you are...no need to do that mate....this time it can just be you!)
- Links must be submitted using the procedure outlined below and must follow the generic concept of "a website that will benefit most Mac users"....so in other words (for example) no websites on upgrading modem cards inside a Pentium 4!
- Entries close midnight, Saturday evening, January 8th 2005
- The judge's decision (Philip Roy) is final and no discussion will be entered into
- Entries that are outside of the concept of "a website that will benefit a Mac user" will be removed and those who submitted the bookmark will not be contacted (note, this is really just so we don't get any silly or offensive websites). This will most likely also include the removal of personal sites, including blogs.....unless it is obvious that the site is specifically about supporting Mac users
- The first person to submit a site not already submitted or listed will be the person who has that site count towards their name/entry
- Entries must be complete - Name, category, URL and description are all required
- Email addresses of entrants will not be kept after the contest
has closed.
- Submitting a site does not guarantee that it will
be posted on the NZMac.com site.
- We reserve the right to reject any submission without explanation
- We reserve the right to edit your submission
- The prize is not exchangeable for cash
The procedure - Go to the "Useful websites (Bookmarks)" section of this site
- Find the most appropriate category and sub-category for where your bookmark should go. (If you do not see an appropriate category, please contact me and I will add one in for you)
- Once you have figured out where the bookmark should be listed, click on the "New" link (this link is public and you do not need to be a registered user of the site to enter) and this will bring up the data entry page
- In the "Name" section, type the name of the website (NOT your name!). Choose the appropriate category for where the site should be listed. Type in the complete URL (web address). Type a brief description of what the website is about (Please keep the description informative rather than promotional)
- Click the floppy disk icon (top right of this area) to submit the bookmark
- You must now send me an email (
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
) stating the bookmark that you have submitted and your name. This part is crucial. Sorry, otherwise I have no way of know who submitted the bookmark.

The prizes - An Apple black cap, valued at around $35 NZ
- Two Apple 'carabina' style key rings (not to be used for rock climbing as it says on it) with an Apple logo etched into it, valued at around $12 NZ each. These are to be given away as two separate prizes.
All items were purchased by me for the site while visiting the Apple Company Store, 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino......which makes them a bit more exciting than they really are. Maybe? ;-) If you have any questions, please email me. Do not just send me the web address via email. You must enter the web address information onto the site yourself! [Update 1] - The name you enter in the bookmark section is the name of the website, NOT your name
- I have no objections to people posting links for their own websites, but please avoid superlatives, such as "The best site on the net"...unless you can prove your claims (and good luck with that), comments like this will be removed. Please keep the description informative rather than promotional
[Update 2]- Closing date changed to January 8th, 2005
- Second carabina-style key ring added
Winners Announced Congratulations to Jaidev who wins first prize with a wealth of bookmarks that were all of superb quality (I appreciate that first prize was for a specific bookmark, but so many of the sites Jaidev submitted were excellent). Consolation prizes go to Chris Murray and Andrew Ecclestone. Many thanks to everyone that took part!
