Over the coming weeks I will be simplifying the Mac Business Directory on NZMac.com and drastically reducing the number of entries that it contains. Specifically, those companies that have a large nationwide presence will see their entries reduced to one and entered into a new "Nationwide Retail" category exclusively for them.

The decision to make this change came about as I migrated the site recently to the new version of Joomla. As I reflected on the content of the Mac Business Directory, I was staggered that TotallyMac.com (for example) was listed on the fifth page of companies beginning with the letter 'T' and that it took 5 pages of "The Warehouse" to get through before finishing that entry. That isn't acceptable to me.

All companies that have more than 10 stores spread about the country will have their entries reduced to 1 in the system. This entry will be added to a new category "Nationwide Retail" and a new location listing "Nationwide". Access to other categories (i.e., if they are an Authorised Reseller or Authorised Service Provider) and the locations they are in, will remain...meaning users of the site can continue to search via these methods to find the company. Their entry will be increased in detail to reflect their nationwide presence.

Any company that has under 10 stores (and can be considered to be located throughout the country) can nominate to be added to the "Nationwide" category, however this will also require that the company reduce their entries in the MBD to 1. Therefore, it is recommended that companies with less than 10 stores keep their individual store listings.

Please also note that any future amendments to listings should be carried out by the company concerned. Simply register on the site and then contact NZMac.com to gain access to your company listing. I'm also aware of the slight glitches with the MDB since the change to the new look site.

Cheers,

Phil

[Update 1] Please note that stores that may have 10 or more stores in one location (eg, Auckland) will also be reduced to one entry. I also consider the 100% stores to be a chain and will be reduced to one entry. The intention is to give the smaller shops greater focus.
