ImagePhilip Roy, owner/operator of NZMac.com, New Zealand's largest Mac website dedicated to supporting the New Zealand Macintosh community is pleased to introduce you to a newly launched companion site NZiPhone.com (www.nziphone.com) - the home of the iPhone in New Zealand. NZiPhone.com like its counterpart, is dedicated to bringing New Zealander's all the news on a truly amazing Apple product.

Built on the ground-breaking open source Joomla content management system, NZiPhone.com takes full advantage of the new Joomla 1.5 framework to provide an easy-to-use website. Now that the site is officially launched, over the next few weeks NZiPhone.com will continue to evolve to meet the needs of the iPhone community in New Zealand and businesses wishing to advertise their products on the site.

As with NZMac.com, the heart of the NZiPhone.com website will be its discussion forum, providing iPhone users from all walks of life with an opportunity to discuss the iPhone and get help from other users as to how best to make use of this incredible product.

The NZiPhone.com website will have many features similar to NZMac.com. Users will still be actively encouraged to participate, submit content and reviews, as well as win prizes in competitions on the website.

If you have any questions about the NZiPhone.com site, please use the site's contact form or post in the forum.

Regards,

Philip Roy

Don't take this the wrong way but I kind of prefer the NZiPhone site over the main NZMac site.

Maybe it's because you've had to do a lot of work to get it to fit nicely on an iPhone but the NZiPhone site is just feels nicer to use.

Actually I think it sort of harks back to my blog entry about UI. The design of the NZiPhone site has the main content on the left and the links and extra stuff on the right making it feel more natural to use.

Kudos on the new site it truly looks great - but then I did have a bit of a play when you first announced it. smilies/smiley.gif

What?!! I'm heart broken! smilies/cheesy.gif

Don't take this the wrong way but *I* prefer the NZiPhone.com site (although I'm a fan of left-hand navigation more). Please keep in mind that the design of NZMac.com is now quite old. I pointed out the plan in my blog post near the beginning of the year (http://tinyurl.com/63ld9o)...and NZiPhone.com has helped me with that. It's a slow plan, but I'll get there :-)

Basically, NZMac.com is running on Joomla "OS 9", whereas NZiPhone.com is running on Joomla "OS X" with "Classic" running in the background...for want of a bad analogy.

So I used the development of the NZiPhone.com site to see how well classic components work with new components...and then get to understand the significant changes in Joomla when moving to version 1.5.

This now means I better understand what is going to work and not work with NZMac.com....and will mean that migration (which is going to be a B-I-G BIG job) is a little easier to understand.

Plan is (and has always been)...migrate NZMac.com to J1.5, using current design...start work on new design. I'm just now in a better position to understand what that all entails.

As I always say...I see these sites as a work in progress. And also, as quite a learning experience.

Phil
