NZMac.com and Hurricane Katrina Print

ImageThat's a news heading you won't see that often. We've been contacted by Jeff at the Podcast Shuffle Show to point out that there is a widget that uses the NZMac.com widget code to provide Mac OS X Tiger users with news concerning Hurricane Katrina and the latest events in New Orleans and Biloxi thanks to TV station news feeds.

What's even more pleasing is that the back of the widget provides users with the opportunity to donate to the American Red Cross, so we're thrilled to see the widget code being used in this way.

The NZMac.com widget was released using the Creative Commons License, which encourages people to make use of the code, but as open source, asks that users keep the credits in the files related to who developed it.

The widget itself has not been developed by the Red Cross, but such a worthwhile use deserved a news item.

You can find the widget for download here...

More widgets from the same company can be found here...

Here in New Zealand you can donate (I've made a donation on behalf of NZMac.com)...

Via The NZ Red Cross

Via the NZ Salvation Army
