It is with tremendous sadness that I announce my decision to close both NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com on 1 March 2011 as I have been unable to find a buyer for the two sites. I will be keeping ownership of the domain names and I will not be passing on the user/subscriber list to any third party. Holders of an NZMac.com email account will be contacted within the next 24 hours and given until the end of March to move their accounts to another email service. I apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause.

I firmly believe that the sites are of value to the Mac/Apple/iPhone New Zealand community and that both the content and functionality of the sites are something we need here in NZ. It's been a fantastic (and on occasion frustrating) eight years, and I have learnt a lot from the experience.

The thing that I will take the most away from the eight years running the sites is that it has allowed me to interact with a fantastic Mac community in New Zealand and overseas. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and use of the site over the years. I do intend to post news on both sites in the final month, as I want the sites to go out as they began...providing you with all the news you need on Apple's great products.

Best wishes, Philip Roy

No of course not. NZMac.com is my site (this site) and people who have an email address that ends in "nzmac.com" will have to start using something else. The story is not related to Apple or their Mac.com accounts at all.

Hi Philip
I just want to say a BIG "THANK YOU" to you and the NZMAC.COM site, mainly for allowing me to put my Apple Macintosh services into your Mac Training directory. It is with regret that we say goodbye to a wonderful Mac institution. Good luck and best wishes for all your endeavours in the future... Margaret Marsh.

Thanks Margaret, I appreciate the comments. I won't post if others comment too much, simply as that would get quite repetitive.

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Philip

Thanks for all your work and assistance over the years. Really enjoyed your helpfulness and simple to understand approach to computing, oh and for the radio widget which was ahead of its time - shame it doesn't work anymore but that's down to stations changing URLs etc..,

Thanks Again

Re the widget...I'm still hopeful there is a clever programmer out there that might get in touch to the posts I put in this section...

One thing on the wish list of features would be to host the data file on a server, so URLs could be updated easily.

Hi Phil

Really sorry to hear about this. NZMac has been a big part of my Mac journey, and you have worked really hard to continually make this site user-friendly - beyond our hopes or expectations. Thank you.

Thanks too for moderating the forums and taking all the rubbish that comes with such a job. Your hard work has been appreciated.

Any recommendations on other good quality Mac communities to join?

Thanks again

Nigel

Thanks Nigel. As mentioned in this....

http://www.nzmac.com/news/site...or-is.html

...the announcement that the sites were closing has generated new interest in finding a buyer and the people I'm talking to are very keen for the sites to continue as they are....so please stick with NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com in the meantime!

Because I mention in that article a desperate attempt by a company to hijack this thread and direct people to their site, I would prefer if this thread didn't become a thread on alternatives...especially as possible new buyers would prefer you stick around ;-)

Phil
