NZMac.com is to be featured as a case study in a forthcoming book on Joomla, the open source content management system that drives this site. Written by Barrie North of Compass Design, the book will take you step-by-step through everything you need to know to develop a professional looking web site powered by the CMS. The book gives a general overview of management of the CMS and explains how to create and lay out content to the best effect.
Barrie and fellow designer Casey Lee are the driving force behind Joomlashack.com, which develops commercial Joomla templates including the design currently used by NZMac.com.
Since moving to the Joomlashack design, NZMac.com has received a lot of praise for its design and ease of layout and I have kept an active role in the Joomlashack forums supporting other Joomla users. At the same time, both Barrie and Casey have offered advice and support when asked and the offer to appear in the forthcoming book was one that NZMac.com couldn't say no to! The NZMac.com site will be used as a case study describing the purpose of the site, its structure and the Joomla components used in order for NZMac.com to achieve its goals.
The book is aimed primarily at those that are relatively new to Joomla. It will have everything you need to help you get up and running quickly. The author Barrie North has a rich background in education and curriculum as well as web design and Joomla.
The book will focus on the upcoming release of Joomla, known as Joomla 1.5. This is a brand new and significant update to the software and throughout the book there will be notes where features or functions differ from the previous version, 1.0.
Other chapters include reviews of some of the more popular extensions available for Joomla, like forums, newsletters and galleries. Lastly the book examines some more general topics like how SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) can be maximized with Joomla and what resources are available in the Joomla web community.
