Imageupdated I'm already an owner of Delicious Library 2, having purchased based on the discussions we've been having in the forum about this incredible product (it won an Apple Design Award for "Best Apple OS X Leopard Application" before Leopard itself was even finished!) ...and now it's the turn of another lucky NZMac.com user to get their hands on the software and write a review for us.

Delicious Monster have kindly offered a copy of Delicious Library 2 for review and this news item is a call for you to indicate if you would like to review the software.

Delicious Library is an incredible library collection system (music, DVDs, CDs, you name it) that needs to be seen to be believed. Oozing Mac goodness in the way it looks, the way it works and how it integrates with your Mac, the power and functionality behind such a simple application is incredible.

Delicious Library 2

Delicious Library 2 redefines your home library collection. While integrating seamlessly with .Mac, iTunes, Address Book, and iCal, Delicious Library 2 categorises, sorts, and tracks all your media, tools, gadgets and toys. So, even if a friend borrows something, you will always know who has it and when you'll get it back. Even better, if you're ever burglarised, you'll have a comprehensive list of all your things, including both retail price and current value, to show to your insurance company.

Even if you don't have a lot of stuff, Delicious Library 2 is a great way for you to grow your collection by using the Recommendations feature to help find new stuff you'll love based on what you already own. Your friends and family can do this as well when they view your online library so they don't give you duplicates or something you'd probably hate.

System requirements

  • Delicious Library 2 requires Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard'

This may be the reason I upgrade to Leopard smilies/smiley.gif

I'll be really interested to see how good the UPC database is for Region 4 DVD's.

I've just downloaded a trial version of "Movie Collector" and even brought a bar code scanner to make scanning in the titles a breeze. Unfortunately only about 1 in 8 DVD UPC scans brought up titles.

I have well over 400 DVD's so at the end of the day I'd end up typing the bulk of them manually - a shame really.

From my trial the DVD support for region 4 is rather poor. It uses Amazon to look up the UPC codes and since there is no Amazon in region 4 you might as well not bother. It is excellent for books and very good for CDs but its DVD support lets it down unfortunately.

I was kind of hoping that there was something like the Compact Disc Database (CDDB) for UPC codes....

I loved the first edition of Delicious Library - but the long delay in the release of v2, meant I shifted to a different approach, of using LibraryThing - an online cataloging service (www.librarything.com) which uses many many sources for bibliographic data (not just Amazon). I would really like it if Delicious Library synced with LibraryThing - that would give me best of both worlds!
