The next step will be to introduce new features into the site that would have previously been quite challenging...one of those will be the ability for site users to have their own blogs on the NZMac.com site! This feature is currently under development but I wanted to take the opportunity to announce it as I will be launching a trial version of the functionality shortly. At the same time, users will be able to provide input into its implementation. This is the first of a series of stages related to blogs on the site that will develop as the blogging component for Joomla (the content management system used on this site) develops also. There is a lot of work to do on this component, but through a staged implementation, you'll see it build and develop. If blog use grows on the site, blog posts will also gain prominence on the main page of the site. The blog system will be powered by a Joomla component (mojoBlog) that is built upon WordPress, a blogging system many are familiar with. mojoBlog follows a distinctly different path than previously released Joomla-based blogging components in that it integrates all styles and functions through the Joomla template structure (thereby releasing it's interdependence on separate themes and stylesheets). Additionally, the developers are working on enhanced features and functions allowing core integration with Joomla along with the ability to use default Word Press plugins and third party widgets within the mojoBlog component (please note that this is what is intended, not what is guaranteed). Features should include:
I'll keep you posted as to how things are progressing. The first stage will be to launch the blog system as a communal blog which users can make use of. Later on, this will move to a more "multi user" based blog system if users of the site want this...or the communal blog could be kept. By this I mean we could just have one communal blog in which you are individually identified and that your posts just add to the list of posts....or we will completely separate your blog area from anyone else who has a blog. I had preferred the latter, but I'm gradually changing my mind and going back to the first idea. Please keep in mind that many of the rules and guidelines for the forum will most likely apply to the blog area also. I would suggest (but not enforce) that posting should be relevant to other Mac users on the site or hold the interest of the intended audience of this site. Swearing, abusive comments etc will not be allowed. At the same time, discussions on issues should be kept within the forum, however you may find that the blog area is a more useful tool to write a more detailed and personal response/reflection to issues that concern you. I'll keep you posted in the forum on future progress of this exciting new NZMac.com development. Related Articles
