Wanted: iPod case reviewers Print

Image Speck Products have generously offered a number of iPod accessories for users of the NZMac.com site to review. These products are designed to protect a number of the different iPods that Apple have available, as well as one product that I'm really trying to avoid describing as "cute". But there..I said it, OK?!

This news item is a "call for expressions of interest" from people that would be willing to review a case and contribute to a review of the Speck Products iPod accessories. And you get to keep the case as a thank you!

Speck Products are the makers of smart computer accessories and design, manufacturer, and sell products for PDAs, MP3 Players, and Apple Computers. The have kindly offered the following cases for NZMac.com users to review...

1x  iPod shuffle "Connect & Protect" (http://www.speckproducts.com/for-shuffle-ipod.html)
There's actually two being reviewed, but sorry folks, I've decided to be a little selfish this time and take one myself to review

2 x mini ToughSkin
2 x mini Skin-Tight ArmBand - http://www.speckproducts.com/for-mini.html

And finally, not to be outdone, two iGuys are being shipped in for some special people out there who want to have "him' included in their life from now on. Is that person you?

So here's how it works.....

  • Address an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , with the subject "iPod cases review"
  • On first line please put your name
  • On the second line, put which ONE item you'd like to review
    • iPod shuffle Connect & Protect
    • iPod mini ToughSkin
    • iPod mini Skin-Tight ArmBand
    • iGuy (requires a 4th Generation or Photo iPods)
  • On the third line, please indicate if you are able to take a couple of images with a digital camera by stating "Have camera" or "No camera". Not everyone will need to take images
  • Then put your postal address (which must be in New Zealand) and a very brief explanation about who you are and why you think you should be involved in the review.

Anyone who fails to complete the above process or lists more than one item to review will not be considered.

As PC users are able to use iPods and have been punished enough by the type of computer they choose to use, we're going to let them in on this review offer. So, you do not need to be a Mac user, but the review is to be focussed on the product and not the operating system you connect to your iPod with.

Once reviewers are selected and announced, I'll send you the appropriate accessory. You'll then be expected to complete a review of 300-500 words within two weeks. You'll then forward your comments to NZMac.com along with any shots you can provide.

The information and images will then be used to create a combined review of the accessories that Specks Products have supplied.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to post them in the forum or contact me. Do not express interest in writing the review in the forum, but to me via email.

You have until midnight Sunday July 10th, 2005 to email me.

And yes....as with the last occasion we did this, I've held back a couple of items to give away as prizes once the review is published.

Notes:

  • Reviews are to be 300 to 500 words in length and can include 1 or 2 images as attachments. These can be submitted as email, or attached to an email as a Word document or Appleworks file. Images should not be reduced in size or quality, but should be cropped to remove unwanted parts and attached separately.
  • The review must include a rating out of 5 for each of the following:
    • Installation & Documentation (in this case, set up)
    • Ease of use
    • Value for money
  • Submissions must be entirely your own work and must not breach copyright or intellectual property rights in any way.
  • By your submission you confirm that you have no association or financial involvement in the product being reviewed.
  • By your submission you grant NZMac.com the right to make publicly available the submitted content as they see fit and (with permission from NZMac.com) for third parties to display your review comments on their site
  • NZMac.com reserves the right to edit articles and reviews. In most cases, this will be done in consultation with the original author.
  • Material submitted is not fact-checked for content accuracy and NZMac.com is not responsible for inaccuracies in the content contained in the article.
  • By agreeing to undertake the review, you assume the risk of any and all damage or loss from use, or inability to use the product.

Thanks once again to the kind folk at Speck Products for allowing NZMac.com users the opportunity to review such a wide range of iPod products and for supporting the New Zealand Mac community.

[Update 1]
Corrected due date for emails. They should be received by 10 July 2005.

[Update 2]
The courier has just dropped off the cases...they look really great. I just want to open them and have a play, but I will resist!

[Update 3]
Well the iGuy was certainly Mr Popularity in the call for reviewers...but in the end, there could only be two that got to own and review one. Here are the names of all the people selected to review cases:

  • Mark Nichols and Glynn Sergeant - iPod shuffle "Connect & Protect"
  • Jim Morrison - iPod mini ToughSkin
  • Shelley Paewai amd Judy Bowen - iPod mini Skin-Tight ArmBand
  • Alan Smith and Kirsten Klitscher - iGuy

Thanks to everyone that sent in an 'application' to review the cases. I enjoyed your comments and amusing reasons why you should review the products. In iGuy's case, I ended up pulling two names out of a hat.

Reviews are due by the end of the month. Everyone else, keep an eye out next month, as I have some extra cases to give away!
