2010 - The year that was
This is likely to be the last "Year that was" from me, with NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com up for sale. Looking back on last year's post (see here) I was about to start numerous days of writing to finish my Masters (all done!) and after that, I'm pleased to report I finally got the proper holiday I had been hoping for. Of course my trip to the UK included a few .....

The all singing, all dancing, h-ypocritical Phil
It seems that Darryn took exception to my last blog post, which was a response to his earlier blog entry. Unfortunately, he decided to respond on his website (you can read it here) and unfortunately, he obviously took my comments personally, despite me trying to make sure I didn't criticise him directly but his opinion, even signalling this in the opening intro. Why Darryn got "the tech pundits" wrong
This started as a comment response to Darryn's blog post here, but I then (as usual) began to ramble...so I'm going to post this as a blog post. Darryn, sorry if this offends, but I continue to be staggered by your selective logic...and this from someone who deals with computers every day! There are three sections of your post that I want to deal with....Multitasking, Camera and Flash.

iPad - lots of hits and a few misses?
I have to stress that I'm writing this as I see the news come in about the iPad. Some of the things I might comment on may be due to the fact that I haven't researched enough. I'm really impressed by the iPad, disappointed also...and a bit surprised. I'll start with the disappointment. Adobe Flash. It's evident Apple's out to make sure that Flash isn't part of their platforms these days. Regardless of what sort of processor this thing has, it could, I speculate, handle Flash easily.

2009 - The year that was
2009 for me will be forever linked to two non-Mac and non-iPhone related things, study and illness. I won't bore you with details of the latter, other than to say it's not been a fun year (nothing life threatening)....and that it impacted both on my study and my attention to NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com, which had to come last on my list of priorities. I am hopeful that as I finally conclude my Master of Education at the end of January 2010 (woohoo!!), that I might also be able to look forward .....

NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com have been acquired by NZ Tech Media Limited, who will continue to operate both sites in much the same manner and format as they are now. NZMac.com – supporting the New Zealand Macintosh Community, and NZiPhone.com – the home of the iPhone in New Zealand, will continue to provide users with all the latest news on Apple products, as well as a vibrant community section, discussion forums and reviews.

Interesting fact....I'm currently unemployed...and yesterday I got offered $1500 NZD for something in an email that ended with the comment "I can pay today". That something? The domain names of the two sites....and YOU. Yes you, the registered users of NZMac.com and/or NZiPhone.com. The company (I'm not naming them as I can't be bothered giving them the publicity) offered me that amount if I was willing to provide them with your user names and contact details.
It took two seconds for .....

It is with tremendous sadness that I announce my decision to close both NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com on 1 March 2011 as I have been unable to find a buyer for the two sites. I will be keeping ownership of the domain names and I will not be passing on the user/subscriber list to any third party. Holders of an NZMac.com email account will be contacted within the next 24 hours and given until the end of March to move their accounts to another email service. I apologise for the inconvenience that t .....

An update to the latest version of iMovie has been released. Apple states that "This update improves overall stability and fixes an issue that could cause audio playback to be out of sync" and it is recommended for all users of iMovie '11. More details can be found here

Thanks Nigel. As mentioned in this....

...the announcement that the sites were closing has generated new interest in finding a buyer and the people I'm talking to are very keen for the sites to continue as they are....so please stick with NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com in the meantime!
Because I mention in that article a desperate attempt by a company to hijack this thread and direct people to their site, I wou .....

Re the widget...I'm still hopeful there is a clever programmer out there that might get in touch to the posts I put in this section...

One thing on the wish list of features would be to host the data file on a server, so URLs could be updated easily.

Thanks Margaret, I appreciate the comments. I won't post if others comment too much, simply as that would get quite repetitive.
Cheers,
Phil

No of course not. NZMac.com is my site (this site) and people who have an email address that ends in "nzmac.com" will have to start using something else. The story is not related to Apple or their Mac.com accounts at all.

Question: For those that bought iMovie 11 via the new Mac App Store, would the update show up in the standard Apple software updates system? Can they download the update that I have linked to? Or do they need to launch the Mac App store on their Mac and use the update system within it??
