Can I use my Bluetooth-enabled phone with my Mac?

Written by
Yes – providing your Mac has Bluetooth. If it’s built in to your Mac then you’re in luck. If not, then you’ll need to buy a Bluetooth USB 'Dongle'. These can be easily obtained from your local computer retailer, TradeMe or Apple itself. Look for 'Class 2' adapters which have a larger range and faster transfers.

Apple recommends the use of the 'D-Link DBT-120' adapter which is supported officially and has the added ability to support Bluetooth keyboards on start-up, something many third-party adapters do not provide. Forum users have reported that many third-party devices work fine.

For more information on Syncing your contacts and addresses, see Miraz Jordan's article "Bluetooth Phones".

For more information on using your Bluetooth phone as a modem for your Mac, have a look at Ross Barkman’s GPRS Scripts page.
