About the NZMac.com Radio widget

This widget provides the ability for users to listen to New Zealand radio station streams that are available on the internet. The widget has a number of stations pre-set (more NZ stations can be added upon request) and you simply select which station you want to listen to. The widget also features an inbuilt update check and will inform you when a newer version of the widget had been released.

Not all radio streams can be in this widget

The technology used to stream audio differs from station to station. This widget will only be able to stream radio stations that can be listened to within the QuickTime player and take advantage of the Flip4Mac WMV Player (free to Mac users) that MUST be installed. In any instances, a radio station will not play via the widget. Feel free to get in touch to suggest additions (via the Contact page) but most of the stations able to be added have now in fact been placed in the widget.

Having Problems?

It is important that the now obsolete Windows Media Player is removed from your machine.

Please see this article on the Microsoft site that states...

There is no uninstaller for Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X; however, you can effectively "uninstall" the Player by dragging files from the following folders to the Trash, and then emptying the Trash:

  • /Applications/Windows Media Player (Drag the entire folder to the Trash.)
  • /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Windows Media Plugin
  • /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/Windows Media Player PrefsUtility download

The widget takes advantage of the free Flip4Mac WMV Player and an application called the "Flip4Mac Streaming Utility application" (available in a zip file that you need to uncompress at http://www.flip4mac.com/support_wmv.htm) which must both be installed for this widget to work.

Once Flip4Mac and the Utility are installed...

  • Restart your Mac
  • Run the application Flip4Mac Utility.app
  • Put a tick in the box you see to choose to "Create streaming movies"
  • Go to the "Flip4Mac Utility" menu and quit the application

Utility

Notes:

  1. In some instances you may find a station will play with this setting unticked. However, although the station will play better, you may find it only does so for an extended period and then stops abruptly. There is no solution to this issue if you choose to leave the "Create Steaming movies" option unticked.
  2. If you are behind an HTTP proxy (usually you'll find these as part of a large corporation or institution, but not at home) and you've made the changes mentioned above...if the selected radio station only streams for a short period (a couple of minutes for example) then there is currently no resolution for this issue. Sorry.
